About Mike Symon
Federal Member for Deakin
Biography
Mike Symon was born in the electorate and was educated in Box Hill and Bayswater.
Mike lives with his wife Cheryl and their two school aged daughters in Heathmont.
Mike commenced an electrical apprenticeship in 1983 as a 17 year old. Mike worked for over 20 years as a qualified industrial and commercial electrician and continued to train in additional areas such as electrical, telecommunications, data, fibre optics and workplace training. Mike holds a Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety.
Mike brings local knowledge, energy, and a wealth of experience to representing the people of Deakin.
Mike is a member of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Education and Employment; the Standing Committee on Infrastructure and Communications; the Standing Committee on Petitions; the Standing Committee on Privileges and Members’ Interests; and is a member of the Joint Standing Committe on the National Broadband Network.
Mike is passionate about securing economic opportunities and jobs for Deakin, supporting local communities, and is focused on education and training, local infrastructure upgrades and maintaing fair work laws.
Mike has been the Federal Member for Deakin since November 2007.
