Pensioners & Self-Funded Retirees Get Help With Bills

Mike is delighted that more than 2,400 seniors living in Deakin are receiving a boost to their household budgets, with the first quarterly Clean Energy Supplement for seniors now arriving in bank accounts.

 As well as their regular Seniors Supplement, eligible self-funded retirees in Deakin are also receiving a new Clean Energy Supplement.  Federal Labor is delivering this extra money to ensure that seniors have a bit more in their pockets to help with everyday expenses as well as meeting the modest impact of the carbon price.

 Payments to eligible self-funded retirees for this quarter include:

  • A Clean Energy Supplement of about $88 for singles and about $134 for couples combined;
  • and the regular Seniors Supplement of about $215 for singles and about $324 for couples combined.

 For the June quarter eligible seniors will receive a payment of more than $300 for singles and more than $450 for couples to help with household bills.

Pensioners in Deakin have already begun receiving their fortnightly Clean Energy Supplement, worth more than $350 a year for singles and more than $530 a year for couples. Pensioners who choose to receive their Pension Supplement and Clean Energy Supplement payments quarterly will also receive their supplements over the next fortnight.

Federal Labor has a strong history of delivering relief for our seniors in Deakin. Labor has delivered the single biggest increase to the pension, made the indexation system fairer, and made it easier for pensioners to work while keeping more of their pension.

 We made sure pensioners and self-funded retirees were supported through the Global Financial Crisis, and now we’re delivering another boost to help make ends meet.

 In contrast, Tony Abbott and the Liberals tried to stop pensioners and self-funded retirees in Deakin from getting this extra money.
