Mike is delighted to congratulate six Deakin residents on their receipt of awards in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List announced this week. The awards in the Order of Australia are presented to Australians who have made significant contributions to their local community and the wider Australian community.

Doreen Stoves of Mitcham received the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to the community particularly through social welfare programs. Doreen is currently CEO of Doncare.

Hazel Edwards of Blackburn, and author of the popular There’s a Hippopotamus on our Roof Eating Cake series of childrens books, received the Medal in the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to literature.

Ruth Hawkins of Ringwood received the Medal in the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community of Maroondah, which recognises her long association with the organisation of the annual Ringwood Eisteddfod.

Bob Liddle of Croydon was recognised for his service to the community through roles with indigenous orgnaisations, particularly in the oil exploration and production industry with the Medal in the Order of Australia (OAM).

Bill Wilkins of Croydon received the Medal in the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community of the City of Maroondah which reflects on his long association with the East Ringwood Cricket Club, the former City of Ringwood and many other community organisations.

Carol Boothman of Burwood East received the Medal in the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the arts as an educator and has been a long time member of the Waverley Arts Society.
