New parents can now lodge Centrelink documents straight from the maternity ward using a fast, easy and secure smartphone app for families. Minister for Human Services, Senator Jan McLucas joined Mike recently to visit new parents at Mitcham Private Hospital to test drive the new option.

The Australian Government’s Express Plus Families App allows busy parents to complete a range of Centrelink business without visiting an office, including submitting proof-of-birth documents to Centrelink straight from their hospital room.

The new Document Lodgement Service feature of the app allows people to photograph the document they’re submitting and upload it through the app.

More than 7,000 families in the local community could benefit from this service when managing payments such as Family Tax Benefit and Child Care Rebate. The families’ app means updates to family income estimates and transaction history can be viewed on mobile devices.

The Express Plus Families app is just one of a series of innovations from the Department of Human Services that are making things easier for Australians. There are also apps for jobseekers, students and seniors to make it easier for them to conduct their Centrelink business remotely.
