International Year of the Volunteer plus ten awards

I am very happy to announce a national awards campaign to recognise local volunteers.
We are so lucky in our area to have so many active volunteers, they make an incredible contribution to our community and these awards are there to help recognise their work.
2011 marks the tenth anniversary of the International year of Volunteers. To mark this special year I will be asking people to nominate the local volunteer they believe most deserves recognition.
The Mayors of Maroondah and Whitehorse have agreed to assist in the selection of ten special categories for the awards.
- MP’s Volunteer of the Year Award
- Junior Volunteer Award (17 and under)
- Young Volunteer Award (18-25 years)
- Education Award
- Environment Award
- Long-term Commitment to Community Service Award
- Business Volunteer Award
- Innovation in Volunteering Award (for an organisation or individual)
- New organisation Award
- Emergency Management Award
Nominations open on 1st of October and close November 12th, an award ceremony will to be held on or around International Volunteer Day on Saturday, December 5.
Ten award winners will receive a custom-designed award pack which will include a letter of recognition from the Prime Minister and the Minister for Social Inclusion, a certificate of appreciation for their volunteering efforts and an IYV+10 commemorative stamp and coin set.
