$200,000 for CCTV cameras in Ringwood delivered

Latest News Comments Off

Minister for Home Affairs and Justice Brendan O’Connor and myself announced the delivery of $200,000 in funding to install closed circuit television (CCTV) at Ringwood train station and surrounding areas.

The Council will install a ‘real-time’ CCTV system directly linked to Ringwood Police Station with the Federal funding.

The installation of the CCTV system would allow ‘real-time’ monitoring at the Ringwood bus interchange and train station as well as other locations.

These new locations will include:

Ringwood Station Bus interchange,  Civic Place Mall, near the Library,  car parks behind the nightclub areas on Maroondah Highway, opposite the nightclubs on Maroondah Highway and the Seymour Street Skate park area and car parks

This is an extensive network of CCTV cameras and I am sure this will make a substantial difference to the Ringwood area.

I want people to feel safe walking through Ringwood, day and night.

These new locations and cameras will tie in with the recently installed and operational camera at the station.

This CCTV system will not only help reduce crime and deter anti-social behaviour, it will also give people peace of mind, knowing that Ringwood Police will be able to respond quickly if something does happen.

The Government’s Safer Suburbs Program has already been responsible for rolling out 21 projects worth $15 million across Australia.

During the 2010 election we announced $5.42 million to extend the successful Safer Suburbs Program, allowing for an additional 41 projects across Australia.

The Program aims to make city centres and community facilities safer places by funding community safety measures such as closed circuit television systems and street lighting.
