Visit to Norwood Secondary College to meet local Navy Cadets

Latest News Comments Off

On the 6th of September myself and the Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney, visited a Navy Cadet unit at Norwood Secondary College today.

At Norwood College, Navy Cadets learn a range of skills and undertake challenging and exciting activities, such as sailing, outdoor camps and navigation.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney, said that: “The Australian Defence Force Cadets is a great organisation. Cadets learn a range of valuable skills – including first aid, navigation and orienteering.  They learn how to lead and be part of a team, take responsibility and contribute to their communities.  Cadets take pride in themselves and their communities,” Senator Feeney said.

The Australian Defence Force Cadets is a community-based youth development organisation focused on Defence traditions and values.

The Australian Defence Force Cadets comprises the Australian Navy Cadets, Australian Army Cadets and Australian Air Force Cadets.

Australian Defence Force Cadets and cadet staff are drawn from a diverse range of unique backgrounds and experiences.

All are committed to providing and enjoying a positive and safe youth development experience, respecting the value and dignity of all people, and recognising the particular rights and needs of young people.

There are more than 23 500  Australian Defence Force Cadets and over 2 400 Cadet staff in approximately 507 Cadet units and headquarters across Australia.

I want to thank the Principal, Vin Virture and the Cadet co-ordinator,Warren Haliday for organising the visit.
