$1.6 million to renovate Nunawading Library delivered

On Thursday the 8th of September I offically opened the newly renovated Nunawading Library with the Mayor of Whitehorse, Ben Stennett and David Morris the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government.
The Australian Government provided $1.6 million to the library renovation project through the Regional Community Infrastructure Grants Program.
The project was delivered in partnership with the Whitehorse Manningham Regional Libraries Corporation, Whitehorse City Council and Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Grant.
Libraries play such a significant role in the community that a full upgrade of Nunawading Library was essential to maintain the building and to improve the services for the community into the future.
The refurbished library now provides expanded programs, children’s reading areas and better access to information technology facilities. The information technology area provides greater access to computers and the internet including wireless access available throughout the library.
The refurbishment also included installation of sustainable design features that will reduce energy and water consumption such as increased natural and energy-efficient lighting and the use of harvested rainwater for toilet flushing.
Up to 150 000 people will use these facilities in the next year alone.
This project is a great example of local government identifying community needs and how all three levels of Government can work together to meet these needs.
The $248 million Community Infrastructure Grants Program is helping to build critical community infrastructure across Regional Australia for projects identified by local communities as priority investments for their regions.
By working together we can provide better services throughout Australia, which is why we’re so committed to the Community Infrastructure Grants Program.
Community infrastructure projects will significantly enhance the liveability of regions and regional towns.
Around the country, thousands of jobs are being supported through the building of great community facilities like these.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this project. You can be proud that you have created fantastic facilities that will serve the community for years to come.
